Alexander, Movement and Fitness

Proper form and a beneficial degree of muscular tension for the task at hand are more important for your health than how strenuously or how often you exercise.  Through study of the Technique you gain the skills to move with ease and prevent pain while you improve breathing, balance, posture and endurance.

Together, you and your Alexander teacher can explore how to solve movement problems and optimize your performance, adding to your achievement and enjoyment.

The principles of the Technique apply to any activity — tennis, golf, skiing, running, baseball, horseback riding, basketball, etc.  By demonstrating principles of efficient movement, the Alexander teacher offers the fitness enthusiast a way to prevent injury and improve overall performance.

It might sound strange and impossible, but the Alexander Technique has always been described as a method that can enhance just about any activity a human being is doing.  And that is true!!!  The founder, F.M. Alexander, used to say:   "If a thief would learn my method, he would become a better thief!"

That said, we all can thrive by improving our daily motions and specialized activities, because stress makes us operate mostly on auto-pilot.  It influences our musculo-skeletal system to react with tensing our muscles instead of using them with ease, with rapid and unclear motions instead of poised and efficient muscular responses.

Give the technique a try and see for yourself!
