Martial Arts Mindset
Aware_Alert_At Ease

For more than two decades I studied Chinese martial arts with very excellent teachers in San Francisco. Over the years I tested and collected concepts, ideas and attitudes based on Gung Fu, Tai Chi and Qi Gong which have untold positive effects on the way one feels, thinks & presents themselves to the world.

In fact, is is not the street-fighting smarts I learned that inspired my deep and long commitment to my teachers, but the secrets expressed through the practice that were sometimes so hidden I had to develop new antennas to hear them, and because of the great attitudes with which each one of my teachers moved through and lived their lives.

Because of their power and universal application, these attitudes are woven into my teaching methodology so they can benefit you without you having to study for many years.

In modern life, many people exist in a state of perpetual tension and mental overload, with fragile nerves and rigid structures that directly affect their ability to be pleasantly alert, connected, relaxed and non-reactive. When you start developing a martial arts mindset for daily life, along with embodied knowledge of the functioning of your body, you will be in charge of how you feel and engage with the world around you.

I am forever grateful to my teachers. Thank you from my heart.

Developing Mastery in Activity

Work Smart Not Hard

Picture

Are you passionate about a new hobby or activity, but reached a plateau even after you have "tried everything"?

Against contrary belief, getting more instruction and working harder does not really help to improve. You might have entered a state of "being too full", stagnant, pent-up. The energy is no longer flowing and progress is blocked.

Being on the path to mastery always follows many cycles of progress and plateau, progress and plateau.
This is normal. There is no end to learning.

What you can do now is Not Doing. Stop. Find out the reason for your congestion: what mental clutter (self-criticism, frustrating experiences) and physical strains and patterns have build up? Finding clarity and resolve frees up renewed energy and space for your creativity to shine.

When stuck at a particular level in developing any skill, we often think that we only need more of something – more talent, or more strength – when what we really need is less of something – less getting in our own way through old habits of being.  Once we learn to stop getting in our own way, the path to the next level of mastery clears up magically. Mind and body once again, move as one.

Maybe you are already studying martial arts? Great! All good martial arts training offers countless discoveries about our psycho-physical potential, and the Alexander method is uniquely suited to enhance your studies.

Supporting your studies with Alexander principles will help fine-tune the development of your balance, ease and natural flexibility, and foster acute awareness and appreciation of your very own individual style of expression.

You will also be supported in your understanding and implementing of how to integrate and coordinate your movements, making them more centered, poised, lighter and freer. It will optimize your Chi flow, endurance and muscle tone. Furthermore, undue stress on bones, tissues and internal organs is avoided through relaxed and expansive posture.

Learn principles of prevention and-or recovery from injury, as well as increase your performance skills. Alexander's principles offer a direct path towards calmness and composure even in the face of adversity. Cultivation of inner stillness in action is achieved through a stabilized center of gravity where your limbs can be used from a new integrated awareness for speed and power.

As your awareness and understanding of natural movement principles grows, so will the beauty and power in the execution of your techniques.

"Qigong asks us to lighten our grip on how we perceive the world and how we approach our lives. To get into the Qi enhancement state means that you will have to relax when formerly you have become tense. You will be electing to breathe deeply when formerly you have held or constrained your breath.
The Qi, mysterious and invisible, is ever present though not obvious. Qi creates a whole new view of life.

Qi is always present and it is free. Begin to notice it around you. Step outside, think past the sidewalk or concrete to the soil, rocks and the planet below you. Look up into open blue sky or the black night and speculate on the boundless nature of the cosmos. Take on the thinking of the ancient Qi masters, sincerely penetrating nature to understand and align with the forces of heaven and earth." R. Jahnke
