Poise Matters:  Taking care of ourselves in an overscheduled world.
**a workshop for parents**
Having Children can be very stressful and seemingly endless work at times, and many parents suffer from back pain and excess tension on a daily basis with little or no time to recharge in between.

Since poor posture and inefficient movement habits are "learned", you can learn to replace them with skillful movement patterns to avoid aches, pains and strains due to improper sitting, reaching, typing, bending down, lifting, cleaning etc.

This workshop is   designed to help you take an active role in managing your reactions to stress by teaching you how to use the body with less effort and more ease.

When:
Saturday, June 30th
Time:
1:30pm- 3pm
Location:  SF Voice & Alexander Technique Center
@ the Flood Building, 870 Market Street
                 at Powell St.
Fee:
$25

The British Medical Association recently published the results of a study where 600 patients worked with 20 Alexander Technique Teachers in southern England.

In this study, subjects with chronic and recurrent back pain were randomized to receive massage, six Alexander Technique lessons, 24 Alexander Technique lessons, or no intervention. In addition, half of the subjects were encouraged to walk regularly. A year later, the group with no intervention had 21 days of pain per month. The group with massage had 14 days of pain per month. The group with six Alexander Technique lessons reported 11 days of pain per month, and the group with 24 Alexander Technique lessons reported three days of pain per month. There were no adverse effects.

6-week group class in the
Alexander Technique for Teens

Come and learn how to connect with the lightness and ease of movement every young person is gifted with!

Why the Alexander Technique?
At a time when our bodies are growing and changing as rapidly as during the teenage years, it can be helpful to learn positive ways of relating to our physicality. Slumping and slouching, which can lead to physical discomfort, are very common among young people.
The idea of "sitting up straight" often causes more harm then good.

The Alexander Technique is a proven method that teaches you to become aware of and transform unnecessary tension as it arises, and provides highly effective tools to respond in new and productive ways to the stresses of (school) life.

Gain self-awareness through observation in a friendly and non-competitive group setting.
During this workshop you will have the chance to share questions and experiences with your peers in an easy and light-hearted way.

Learn and understand
1. The intelligent "architecture" of your body
2.  How to use your senses to better move through space
3.  How to feel better in your growing body no matter
 what activity you do
4.  How to increase performance in sports, dance, acting, music, etc

Session 2:
